We strongly encourage everyone to please be courteous at any time of year, but particularly during cold/flu/illness season! Whilst the National Health and Medical Research Council say to only exclude from care if symptoms are severe or if a child has a fever etc, we appreciate everyone to consider the following:
- Just because your child doesn’t have a fever, or seems alright in themselves, does not mean they aren’t contagious. Also, the same infection that may seem minor in some people, can end up being more severe in others.
- Staying healthy in childcare is dependent on strict hygiene and teaching children good respiratory habits. Whilst I wipe noses as frequently as I need to, and then wash my hands, unfortunately toddlers like to wipe their own nasal discharge with their hand, which can then be wiped anywhere. As much as I encourage it, it is also challenging for toddlers to understand the concept of sneezing and coughing into an elbow, allowing droplets to be dispersed readily into the air.
- If your child passes germs to other children at Tiny Oysters, you are risking those families having to take sick leave for their child, or if passed to me, I may have to close until well again, which effects all Tiny Oysters families.
